Ducky is not dead.

I am a little behind on watching NCIS and I just finished the last episode and just like everyone I was going to be so mad if they let him die. I googled around and found this article here and here is what it says about Ducky for next season, " On the fate of Ducky (and Palmer): "David [McCallum] and I talked about it for months, and he’s been preparing for it. He was absolutely 100 percent willing to play along, and we wanted to be very secretive about it and keep it under wraps, and it’s really going to give his character a new perspective on life coming back from what he experienced."
"I’m not going to play games with people. People know he signed a new contract and he is coming back, so it’ll be more about the way the character evolves and the fact that he’s got Palmer there to help him."
"As a medical examiner who deals with the dead, and deals with death on a daily basis, to have an experience like that is significant. And we’ll play that throughout the season." Thank goodness because the show would not be the show without him. That would be like taking Gibbs off the show. I am not too fond of Jamie Lee Curtis's character either. Her and Gibbs do not mesh very good at all. Hope this helps everyone who is worried about Ducky :)

He is NOT dead. David signed a 2 year contract. He will be with us, as long as his health is good, till the end of season 11.

How about this scenario? Gibbs and Vance are in Autopsy talking about the Ducky situation while Palmer works in the background and tries his best not to appear to be eavesdropping.
VANCE: “Dr. Mallard will be out for several weeks and on light duty after that. We need a temporary replacement.”
GIBBS: “It better be someone I can trust.”
VANCE: “You got anyone in mind?”
GIBBS: “I might know a guy.”
VANCE: "Who?”
GIBBS: “He’s a good man.”
VANCE: “Well, have him come in and see me.”
Gibbs and Vance leave Autopsy as Palmer stares after them. A second later Gibbs re-appears in the doorway.
GIBBS: “Palmer!”
PALMER: “Yes, sir.”
GIBBS: “Director wants to see you. And call me boss.”
PALMER (breaking out into a wide smile) “Yes, boss.”

That wouldn't be bad to have Palmer take over for a bit. Do you find this valuable?

It would be a chance to prove himself more-so that he is capable of handling an autopsy on his own. But I think the plan is to start ahead of time when Ducky has returned. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

As someone else has already said David McCallum has signed a contract for another two years and will still be with NCIS when he's 80, but I'm pretty sure Palmer will be taking over for a while, and I assume this because he is now a "fully-fledged" member of the cast in season 10, although he has been due this since quite a few years ago.....
