NCIS floor designations
Sep 26 2011, 8:58 PM EDT | Post edited: Sep 26 2011, 8:58 PM EDT
Does anyone know where each "level" is within the NCIS building? We're thinking (from bottom to top) Autospy, Garage/forensics, Squad Room/Interrogation rooms/MTAC (using the stairs/elevator), Abby's floor but we're not certain about any of this. Can anyone help? Is there a "floor plan" out there somewhere? We'd appreciate any help someone can offer. Thanks. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

A multi-level floor plan of NCIS was seen in "Bete Noire" (season 1, episode 16). Based on that (from bottom to top) the levels are: Autopsy, Forensics Lab, Squadroom, and MTAC. The garage is not shown on the floor plan but presumably it is on a lower level (possibly on the same level as Abby's lab or below). Also not pictured is the Director's office which would either be on the same level as MTAC or possibly above it. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

The main elevator (seen in the Bete Noire layout), is the key to many guesses of room locations.
It has 5 buttons in it (presumably B2, B1, Main, 2, 3), although we cannot see the buttons clearly enough:

B2 is Autopsy - as would be expected.
B1 is Abby's Lab; a half floor down, based on the high windows in her lab, at ground level.
M is rarely seen, but visitors are sometimes dropped off there so we know it exists
2 is the Bullpen
3 is MTAC, and presumably the Director's Office

I have presumptions:
-Garage is at the back of Abby's Lab somewhere. Since people walk by Abby's window, she's at the front; the garage makes sense to be at the back. As well, vehicles would go down one half-floor this way; rather than 1.5 floors if the garage were behind autopsy.
-the Armory, first seen early in Season 10 (Ep 1 or 2?) - I cannot place it; but B1 or B2 would make sense, for security reasons.
-the break room is likely on the 2nd floor with theBullpen - and Interrogation is believed to be under MTAC.

But there are inconsistencies in the layout referenced through the show.
-for example; more than once, Gibbs is in Abby's Lab when he has to 'go UP to Autopsy'.
-the Bete Noire layout, shows that the below-ground level building is extended, and its primary space is turned 90degrees from the direction of the upper building.
This is unlikely for architectural design, and physical stability, issues.

I have just started creating a 3D model of the building; I will use the Bete Noire layout to put the floors together; then work at it from there.

Note that in S10, Eps 6-7-8, there is a WHOLE LOT MORE of the place seen by the camera. They go into rooms they've never been before, showing angles we've never seen, and offer wide views of the main rooms, that offer some extra "oh, that's where that goes" answers.

Very interesting post - I can not find any fault in your logic. As a retired Structural Engineer who has worked on thousands of building plans for construction (it sounds like you have also) I would be very very interested in you final 3D model - I hope you post it on this site for all to see.
Thanks

Hi, Lavernia - no, not an engineer, architect or builder. Just a guy with some common sense & a love of finding mistakes on TV (I've flooded moviemistakes.com with NCIS goofs).

I'm using an old copy of Better Homes & Gardens Designer Suite; it let me make a pretty good model of my new condo when I moved in - so I know the results could be very nice - although much less than professional software could.

I'll try to post each floor when they're recognizable, and then when complete, and then the final 3D version with the whole building.
I have to pick away at it, bit by bit - and go through the DVDs to find more specific examples than I can remember.
