I think they could become as close as Gibbs and Ducky, with time. Obviously Gibbs and Ducky are closer because they have more of a history together, but I can see Tony and Jimmy becoming that close as friends and respectful of each other as colleagues. They seem two totally different personality types at first glance, but are they really? Tony doesn't really reveal that much of himself to anyone and we only know of Jimmy what we see in the few scenes we see him in, which usually involve Jimmy working with a body and too busy to do much other than discuss work. There's a scene in "Dead and Buried" where Jimmy bumps into Tony in the house where they find the dead body. Jimmy just gives him a "whoops" look and pats Tony on the shoulder and Tony just stares back in a combination of surprised and bemused. And that was right after Gibbs had returned, so I'm guessing it was sometime around the beginning of season 4 that this began. Jimmy can look at things from a different perspective than the rest of the team, so he could be both a good buffer and a good sounding board. Plus I like Jimmy, so I hope he sticks around and becomes Tony's "Ducky." Do you find this valuable?

Just right now I can't see Tony and Jimmy Palmer being anything other than work colleagues. They don't appear to have anything much in common and hardly spend anytime together. They are too different in nature. They will probably always respect one another though. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I think it will develop like that. Just as Ducky hints that Tony is a lot like a younger Gibbs. It can be assumed that it happened in between S3 and S4. I do think Jimmy will become Tonys "Ducky" Do you find this valuable?

Okay, again here with the Gibbs/Tony parallels. They are just freaking annoying me right now. (Having just watched "Bounce" the other day....)
I think its "cute" that Tony is trying so hard to replicate the habits of his mentor, Gibbs. But I hate when the assumption is made that since Hiatus, Tony has been perfectly capable of replacing Gibbs or that he is just as good as Gibbs and that now he can even take on his own little mini-Ducky in Palmer. Uhm no. Just no. Tony is no Gibbs, just as Palmer is no Ducky.

Even if the relationship is still young and developing, the Gibbs/Ducky connection was around pre-show and such a deep and tested friendship like that takes decades to build. A solid Tony/Palmer parallel to that relationship, even if it does has the seeds to develop (and im not entirely convinced that it does), would have to be focused and built upon consistently throughout the show. And lets face it, Tony & Palmer don't even share enough screen time to do it.
