Episode: Frame Up- The drum solo...
Jul 3 2009, 7:57 AM EDT | Post edited: Jul 3 2009, 7:57 AM EDT
I was just telling my husband the other day how well done that one was. My husband will drum on the table, and I will instantly think of that. I think that it is just so well-crafted as you watch the scene of his team members frantically gathering evidence. Music would have spoiled it.

Also, that same episode, when Tony is in the jail cell and Gibbs head-slaps him, he also gives him a slight touch on the chin to "keep his chin up". It is hard to catch, but I think it is there... did anyone else notice it?

I noticed it. Nice touch! The drum solo is one of my favorite NCIS sequences, right there after the one in Kill Ari 2 where we start with Gibbs's eye, zoom out to a dolly of him turning while on a green screen behind him they play shots from Ducky, McGee, Abby, Tony, and Jen. Nice way to cover a lot of scenes into 36 seconds. They used the same type of time compression technique with the drum solo. Love it!

I love interesting shots like that- I don't know how they are done. I think I would love that career of putting the shots together if I wasn't a teacher. Outside of the camaraderie and humor, I think the show is just so well done- shot and put together. I think that is why it is overall just a great show to watch. Except the autopsy- that is my least favorite. Although, they are well done too. Hard to watch with dinner. My husband won't let me watch "Meat Puzzle". ;)

I need to re-watch the scene you are talking about. We are slowly purchasing all of the seasons on DVD. We watch them with dinner. My husband watched the "Kill Ari" ones without me. I will check it out!!! Thanks for the discussion!!!! :)

The drum solo is posted here. http://cbsncis.wetpaint.com/video/6480955/Frame-up+Tony%27s+Drumming

I'm working on uploading the Kill Ari 2 sequence. I want to render it a little higher before I upload it to Youtube. Look for it this afternoon. It'll be in the this folder http://cbsncis.wetpaint.com/videos/album/120434/Sandbar's+fav+vids

I think the drum solo just adds to the episode. I love how the show does that. Like in Kill Ari 1&2 . They explain so much about the characters, and show just how well put together the show is. I think that's what makes the show so unique.

That and Tony playing around is just funny to watch.

I wish they would have done the drum solo like they show it in the opening credits, but yes, great scene

Ooh, now you are a true fan- I am drawing a blank as to how it is in the opening credits. I have to go look!!! You know what I miss in the opening credits- that clip of Tony doing his football moves before throwing a rock through a window of a suspect's house- that was back when McGee was becoming a regular and had not yet become corrupted by Tony's "evil ways". That makes me laugh! Do you find this valuable?

I watched it, I didn't even remember they show it that way- it is really good! Thank you for uploading it! I think those episodes, I was so sad and shocked about Kate, I didn't pay attention as well! Do you find this valuable?

I thought of something else, since this is wordless quotes- there is a lot of pain in those eyes. Mark Harmon does a tremendous job conveying such depth of emotion... Do you find this valuable?

You're welcome. I was a film student in a past life. I can get a little DiNozzo-like about movies and editing. I go totally ga-ga over the drum sequence and the Kill Ari 2 sequence. I'm hoping to collect a bunch of my favorite shot sequences. I also would like a collection of the snapshots they take of one another.

OOOooo, like the one with Tony posing in front of the stuffed grizzly bear? LOL!!! Or Abby's cell phone picture! Is that what you mean with snapshots! I think those would be great collections! I love editing too! Each year,I make a video of my class over the course of the year- it is a lot of work, but I love the editing and adding music. I just wish I had better software that WIndows Movie Maker- but I am grateful for that! It is fun!
But the curse is- good editing is fun to watch, but bad editing makes you cringe, right? I never realized, but I am a bit like DiNozzo- I do frequently say, "Ooo, that is like this commercial, or tv show, or movie..." Do you do that too?

Yep, that's what I mean. I have that snap of Gibbs and the team from "Witchhunt" with the spider dropping down. Love it.

My sons and I talk in movie references. Carry on perfectly coherent conversations that my husband can't understand. And then to shake things up, we'll randomly quote Shakespeare. :-)

We just watched "Yankee White" last night. It would be good to have snapshots of Ducky and DiNozzo take pictures of each other sitting in the President's chair on Airforce One. I think the cute part was that Ducky wanted a picture too. I guess, I would too!!!

That episode was interesting because Gibbs was talking about the movie "Airforce One". He doesn't watch many current movies, but I guess that movie isn't so current anymore! ;)

This is my own little theory about the movie fan within NCIS. Tony doesn't make one, NOT ONE, reference to the movie "Air Force One" the entire episode. In fact he doesn't even start make references to movie until much later in the season (maybe even the series). I think that starting out in that first episode,'Yankee White" that Gibbs was going to be the one with the movie infatuation. However, the writers had also established the boat/basement and decided one obsession , uh, hobby, was enough.
Again, just my own theory.

This is like a year later... I think you are so right! I think it was given to DiNozzo because Michael Weatherly seems to be a movie buff. They seem to incorporate real life stuff into the characters, sometimes as what my husband told me the term is "Easter Eggs"- references to former movies they did, football, for example current season- Tony & Michael Weatherly's love of Elvis Costello. Fun stuff! Yeah, a boat in a basement is quite the obsession/hobby. All those obsessions might make Gibbs a little too quirky!
