I really liked this episode! It was very touching, and focused well upon Ducky.

And let me say that I like the fact that the writers are not focusing upon just one item. Yes, I would like to see more TIVA action, but I am enjoying more their focusing upon each character in turn.

"It's going to be interesting to see what Gibbs does with Vance's file. for sure he has "an ace in the hole" if he chooses to use it."
Ya, that file is going to come up just when Gibbs needs leverage for something the director is going to lay on him. Meanwhile was anyone else surprised at Palmer's aggression at the start of the show about getting lost? He has never talked back to Ducky before but rather always the shy yes man. I wonder if they are going to give him more of a personality? He snapped back to the old Palmer after Ducky got back but I wonder.......

To bad I'll have to wait for I don't know how long until this episode is scheduled here in The Netherlands. Yesterday we were halfway through season 5.
Glad you guys posted a summary so I could read how this episode ended. I was a bit worried of Ducky getting retired. I'm sure David did a great job, he always does (*smile*).
Thanks again for the summary.

Thanks to those who upload to MiniNova.

Downloaded (slowly), but eventually reached 100%.

I am 80% through the episode. Have to watch it 2-3 times to figure it all out.

LOVE your '*FOOF*' in the summary. It took me a while to get that. But now I actually hear it as I'm reading.

"Oh by the way... Did anyone else notice how close Tony and Ziva were standing at the very start of the ep? You would have struggled to slide a piece of paper between them. It was rather cute.
Each week I fall in love with McGee a little more. Ever since Judgement Day 2 his character change has been incredible. I've always seen him as the weakest actor on the show... but now... I'm struggling on deciding who the finest actor is. Mark Harmon? Michael Weatherly? Or Sean Murray? Cote de Pablo is giving them a run for their money as well...
"
Let's admit it, peachyx...there are some darned fine actors on that show.

And last night Dietzen turned in a really good performance too. It was very touching how anxious he was to please Ducky at the end and how he showed his hurt and his understanding of Ducky's pain when he left at Ducky's request.

Just a fine, fine bunch of actors all the way round...pleasure to see their work each and every week.

And even in highly focused episodes there are little bits for each character. Tim and Abby got that incredibly cute scene between them and McGee, Tony and Ziva got to work their investigative muscles trying to save Ducky. Not to mention that little intense scene between Ziva and Gibbs on the couch when she tells him the facts of political life in the Middle East.

I want more TIVA too but this was a ...well, I won't say a wonderful episode, it was too much of a downer for that...but a powerful, thought provoking episode, really powerful.

Oh i totally agree mewofford. Its the reason i fell in love with the show to begin with. I refuse to watch anything with bad acting. They are just brilliant actors all round.

The inauguration hoopla here in the US will preempt the network programming next Tuesday. I am glad I have other channels to choose from, because this is going to be an all day event.

It is a pleasure every week to see them work together. I just rewatched the episode for the second time and it was even more awesome the second time.

"Does anyone know what the background relationship is between Jordan and Duckie?"
In the season 5 episode "Identity" Ducky is performing a autopsy for a class on a body that was a John Doe and he finds that the body was murdered and not a natural death as the Maryland Medical Examiner first concluded...Dr. Hampton was the Maryland M.E. who did it. So Ducky is fuming that the M.E. missed how he was killed and goes to confront her at her office and when Gibbs and Ducky get there and Ducky sees her he goes from really mad to as nice as he can be and definitely seems to have a thing for her as soon as he sees her...

So she is in that episode and she is also mentioned in the episode "Internal Affairs" later in season 5 when Ducky needs to get the autopsy report on The Frog...She is the one who did the autopsy on him. So he says he will have to be charming to get it... Although she is not actually in that episode...Thats the basics of their relationship...

What an outstanding episode- I don't cry, but that brought a lump to the throat! By the way, how refreshing to read these comments, unlike some other boards- where people weren't happy- for Heaven's sakes, what more could you ask for? Do you find this valuable?

This episode was very touching to me, it showed Ducky's background...finally we touch on Ducky for a change...very emotional performance for David McCullam ....and I always new about Vance,,,hehe..I knew he was dirty by the way he shredded that file after director Shepard died. Now Gibbs has leverage...but the question is will he have to use it? Excellent episode...2 thumbs up from this N.C.I.S watcher Do you find this valuable?

You know, I can't help wonder if the writers are preparing us for another rug being pulled under our feet like Agent Lee? They showed a confusion and mysterious looks from Jordan. Something is up. I wonder if she is after Ducky but not in a good way? Palmer saw something and I think Gibbs did. Maybe I'm all wet but the writers were definitely trying to focus on Jordan and some dilemma that was bothering her. Do you find this valuable?

I don't know Casecracker. It seemed more concern to me than anything else. And Gibbs did ask her to keep an eye on him as Ducky seemed very unfocused during the whole dead bird/living bird scene.

I am hoping she will become a recurring character so Ducky can have a love life. She is an excellent actress...very low key.
For Heaven's sake, someone needs to get laid on that show.

(Sorry...someone needs to have a love interest. sigh...)

You're right about Murray/McGee. Both character and actor are really coming into their own. Cote, too. It's such a great cast. I enjoy watching all the characters (well, except for Vance). I don't think I've ever watched a show where I've found *all* the players interesting. All of the characters have truly evolved.

I also loved McGee and Abby's conversation about adding layers without losing the original ones. A very well written scene with a double meaning (image layers in the video/layers to McGee's personality). Wow!
