He took a deep breath...and flicked the switch on the elevator sending it down on to the next level. He knew he needed to get this over and done with as quickly as possible. He stepped out...

"Hey Abs," called McGee.
"McGee!" Abby cried out, running to meet McGee with a hug. When McGee didn't respond Abby stepped back to take a closer look at her friend. But I love him. Too deeply. I should have never hurt him before...these were the thoughts that ran through Abby's head every time she saw McGee now.
"Abs, sit down, there's something I need to tell you," McGee's face was grim and he spoke quietly.
Abby obediently sat down. Please God, let him propose...
"I may be leaving NCIS for good." McGee dreaded the reaction on Abby's face.
"You can't!! (no no no no NO!) you'll spoil the family! And anyway WHY?!" Abby said in her almost desperate voice.
McGee was hating this part. Why. God help me, he thought.
"My girlfriend is pregnant and we're moving to England for the time being." McGee shut his eyes. Silence. He opened them. Abby was standing there stunned, like a lost puppy being abused and not knowing why.
"... congratulations," Abby choked, and ran out the room.
"ABBY! WAIT!" McGee yelled knowing it was useless.
"Oh crap," sighed McGee sitting down.

no no no no no no...Deviancy...no no no no no no no.... That was the only thing going through Abby's head as she drove home.
bleep-bleep bleep-bleep-bleep the familiar ring-tone cut the silence.
"NO!" yelled Abby as she swerved into a pull-in.
It was McGee.
She sighed then answered.
"Tell me it's a joke. Say you'll leave her, and the baby and run away with me, please, please, please, pleeease!" cried Abby running out of breath.
"You want an innocent kid to grow up fatherless?" said the cool familiar voice of Gibbs.
"I thought you were McGee!" said Abby, shocked.
"Yeah McGee and Gibbs are really easy to mix up aren't they?" called DiNozzo from the background.
"DINOZZO!" called Gibbs. Thwack.
"Ow!" cried Tony.
"Get back to work." called Gibbs.
Gibbs turned his attention back to Abby.
"He still loves ya Abs," said Gibbs.
"It's just he's found someone else now."
A lonely tear ran down Abigail's face as she rung off, and drove home in uninterrupted silence.

(Next Day)
DiNozzo walked in from the lift and sits down at his desk. Only Ziva was at her desk.
"Where's McGeek?" asked Tony.
"You mean you haven't heard?" asked Ziva in response.
"Heard what?" asked Tony.
"Heard about a dead Marine in Georgetown," Gibbs replied.
They all gear up and got in the elevator.
"7 seconds, a new record," said Gibbs.
"Yah, only McGee wasn't there to slow us down," says Tony pointedly looking at Ziva. Ziva grinned.
"What makes ya think that McGee would slow us down, DiNozzo?" asked Gibbs,giving Tony the look,as they trailed into the Truck.
"Nothing, but if we want to arrive back with only one dead body, I would drive if I were you Boss," said Tony.
Ziva grinned again.
Gibbs let that one go and climbed into the driver's seat.
"So what was that thing about McGee you were going to tell me?" asked DiNozzo.
"That his girlfriend is pregnant and they are leaving for the U.K. in four weeks time," replies Ziva.
"WHAT!!!!!" Tony sat there stunned for the rest of the journey. McGeeek Has A GIRLFRIEND????
WHO IS PREGNANT??? WITH HIS......? Wow.
When the team arrived, McGeeless, they found a dead sailor in the back of an old truck.
"Name: Lieutenant Jeffreys," said Gibbs.
"Death: bullet wounds to lower abdomen and fracture of the spinal cord," said Ducky after a careful examination. "Although I could probably tell more when we get him back home. I have also not failed to notice the absence of Timothy."
"Long story," DiNozzo said .
"This is too easy. I have already found a bloody gun and a ripped fuse in the car," said Ziva. "Easy causes of death."
Tony finished taking pictures and as they headed back to HQ Tony said, "Looks like an open and shut case this time."
(back at HQ)
"Miss Davies will be filling in as a substitute for Miss Sciuto for the time being." Leon Vance's grim face called out to the rest of the team.
"I told her to stay off for a week," Vance murmured in Gibbs' ear. Gibbs nodded.
"Replacement?" he muttered back.
"6:30 tomorrow," Vance answered.
Gibbs nodded and walked back to his desk.
"I want phone records and all accessible details," he told the team, and headed down to Autopsy.
"On it Boss!" the two remaining Giblets chorused.
(In Autopsy)
"The remains of what looks like a crushed spinal disk, is in fact a replacement," Ducky informed Gibbs.
"Replacement?" Gibbs asked.
"His spinal disk was replaced, but not as you might think. A false one. In fact it was replaced with another spinal disk,
and by the strain on the lower section, from extra weight from the front of the body, possibly a pregnant woman".
Gibbs just stared.
"So we're looking for another body?" Gibbs wasn't happy.
"Seeing as it had already started to decay post-mortem, I'd say yes"
Gibbs walked out.
"There's more!" Ducky cried.
Gibbs walked back.
"The gunshot wound to the chest."
"If you look at these scans, the bullet entered through the back of the lung, but if you look at these scans there's nothing on the other side. The only thing I could find was the tracks it made through the body," Ducky finished.
"So no bullet?" Gibbs questioned.
"Probably removed post-mortem."
"They set the crime scene up?"
"Quite possibly, yes. It reminds me of a case in Morocco in '75 when a man was found with pin marks..oh he's gone."
And indeed Gibbs had gone up back to the rest of the team.
(Next Day)
Ziva walked in that morning very engrossed in a book. Tony, who is already at work peered at the cover of the book.
"What are you doing?" Ziva questioned.
"Trying to read a book sideways," Tony replied.
"All you had to do was ask," Ziva pointed out.
"Does it have any interesting sex scenes?" Tony asked.
I had a suspicious feeling he might say that, Ziva thought. "No, why would I read anything like that anyway?" Ziva looked at Tony suspiciously.
He shrugged. "Maybe..To...y'know...get you....heated up? I mean if you didn't get..heated up..then you wouldn't be good in bed and no man would be interested in you...." Tony tailed off.
"Why exactly would you be interested in me getting...heated up??...unless...." A sneaky grin slid across Ziva's face.
A pause, and then the pin dropped for Tony.
" NO, No what?! You want to .... with, with me?????"
"Ziva wants to do exactly what Tony?" Gibbs strolled in. Tony froze.
"Your face! I wish I had a camera!!" Ziva laughed and sat back down.
"You still haven't answered my question DiNozzo." Gibbs stood in front of Tony's desk.
( At McGee's house)
Mcgee looks down. We see in his hand his mobile on the 'calls sent' and on every one there is:
Abby 1930
Abby 1925
Abby 1920
Abby 1915
ect, ect.
Finally he presses '3' and he dials Tony.

Abby too is staring at her phone-the difference being is she is looking at the 'calls received' list:

finally she pressed '3' and she calls Ziva....

Out behind a bush in Georgetown, a baby is found and bundled into the back of a van. We see a gloved hand slip a Marine badge in the cloth and it is dropped off at the doorstep of a hospital.



Chapter 2

Gibbs rounded the corner from the coffee machine, only to find his two Giblets on the phone, both of them talking in low intense voices. As soon as they saw Gibbs they switched off and returned to typing.
"That was Abby, Gibbs. Apparently McGee has rung her, several times, but she doesn't want to answer because she doesn't know what to say."
Gibbs turned to Tony.
"That was McGee Boss, and apparently he's rung Abby several times and he's worried for her safety, because she won't pick up."

On cue, Vance stepped out of his office.
"Vance," called Gibbs.
Vance looked at him.
"Forget the sub. We're bringing Abby in."
"Why?" asked Vance.
"Take her mind off McGee."
Vance nods. "Good idea."

(Next Day)
"I see McGee isn't in," Ziva commented as she passed Tony's desk.
"Nope."
Ziva nodded walked to her desk to start work.

"Gear up, we've got another body," Gibbs said as he passed with his coffee.
"Girl or boy?" Tony asked.
"Baby," Gibbs replied.
"Dead baby?" Ziva queried.
"Nope," Gibbs said, "a live one, with a Marine badge tucked in its clothing."

"Is it essential for both of us go Boss?" Tony said.
Gibbs sighed then said, "Ziva with me, Tony search tracing records for a missing baby."
"On it Boss" Tony said and headed back to his desk, leaving Ziva alone, hurt and confused, in the lift with Gibbs.

(down in Autopsy)
"Oh dear." Ducky inspected the smashed spinal disk while holding a report on DNA.
It read, Celia Ringer/Ionia Ringer, twins, in the USA, Ionia went missing at 1200hrs on the 3rd of November.
"McGees birthday, how interesting...." Ducky then picked up the phone and called Gibbs.

Who is meanwhile in his car with Ziva and the baby, driving back to HQ.
"We will need to test the DNA to try and trace its parents...."
"Ya, I know Ziva," said Gibbs "And I need to see Ducky."
"Why"? asked Ziva.
"Coz he's got something for me."
Ziva stared at Gibbs wondering how he knew that....

(Down In Autopsy, 15 mins later...)

"Blood tests have been run, by Abigail and there is some bad news."
"What, Ducks?"
"Well Jethro, this spinal disk belongs to twins, one of which went missing on Timothy's birthday last year."
Gibbs sighed. Yet another twist.
"And I do believe you're wanted in Abby's lab."
"Thanks Duck," Gibbs said and went up to the lab.

(In Abby's Lab)
Abby stared at the screen. She had quadruple checked it. So this was McGee's girlfriend. And McGee.
The baby Abby had grown so attached to in the past few minutes was theirs.

She started to shake and tremble. It suddenly became difficult to breathe. Blackness was devouring her.
...a face...blue eyes...Gibbs....a sharp pain....McGee at a wedding...their wedding...celebration...McGee kissed her...love...happiness...black roses...McGees face...a baby...that baby...ice cold....a voice..
"Abby! Wake up! The damned computer's on fire!"
Abby sat bolt upright. Computer on fire!?!
"n-Gibbs." "What happened?" Abby looked around. Ziva and Gibbs helped her to her feet. Tony lingered at the doorway and
Ducky had wheeled up an gurney for safe measures.
"I thought I was getting married to McGee?" Abby said.
"No Abs. McGee's gone."
Everything suddenly came back to Abby and she groaned. Then she remembered.
"Timmy and Ionia Ringer!" she exclaimed. "That's their baby!" Abby said. Gibbs and Ducky stared. Ziva looked confused.
"Abby, Ionia went missing on McGee's birthday, last year," Gibbs said, in a low voice.
Abby stared....


"McGee, pick up the damned phone!" Gibbs yelled at his cell.
"Yes Boss?" McGee replied from the other end.
"Get the hell in here-NOW!" Gibbs practically screamed.
Silence on the other end of the line, then McGee rung off.


(Near Ncis)
"**** this traffic jam," McGee muttered as he slowly, oh so slowly, turned the corner of the block and saw NCIS was in view.
He got his phone out.

"Gibbs. I'm in a traffic jam, just outside NCIS."
"Well get OUT of the traffic jam and getcher ass in here now!!"
McGee sighed.
"I'll try Boss."

(In NCIS)
"DiNozzo, go see why there a traffic j-oh crap." He saw there was an incoming call FROM Metro PD.
"Mr. Gibbs, there a new body, found just outside your place," an eager voice came from the cell phone.
"Oh crap."
