| Season 1 |
- Tony DiNozzo and Paula Cassidy first met in Season 1 when the team first went to GITMO in the Episode called "Minimum Security". According to Kate Todd "You were so excited going to Cuba and riding in the jet, it stimulated the hell out of your endorphins, the first woman you saw was like honey to a bear".
- Paula Cassidy was an attractive NCIS agent who worked as an interrogator at Camp Delta at GITMO and Gibbs was suspicious that she may have been involved in a crime and Tony was assigned to observe Paula. Tony watched Paula at a club called "El Floridita" and they basically played a flirtatious game. They started dancing and it was evident that they were both enjoying themselves when Tony got a call "I'm back on duty" and Paula replies "Well that's too bad" and Tony says "So are you". And that is how Tony and Paula met.
- Their relationship, flirtatious and fun, was interrupted by Gibbs suspicion of Paula and he made Tony search her room. As Tony walked past Paula he whispered, "Sorry Paula". It was the first time Kate had seen Tony apologize to a suspect. When Gibbs questioned Paula about it later she said, "He just blew his chance to get laid". It was very clear the romantic intentions between the two of them but as Gibbs quoted "Romance between agents, Kate, it never works" (he was quoting to Kate and we later find out in the third season that he was obviously speaking of himself and Director Jennifer Shepard).

| Season 2 |
- When they next met in the second season, episode "Heart Break" (where Dr Donald "Ducky" Mallard has his own attraction to a woman) it is clear that Tony still is VERY interested in Paula, has kept tabs of where she is stationed, although Paula is not responsive to his moves. In that episode Kate quoted "Is she something special?.... She is something special". Even though Tony has a clear attraction to Paula and flirts with her throughout the whole episode, Paula does not respond even though she may have privately been hiding her attraction.
- In "Heart Break" , there are two significant dialogues between Tony and Paula . It seems that they've been dating for a short time after Gitmo. Tony: "Hi ... you've been back a week. You didn't call." Paula: "I've been gone months. I didn't get any e-mails." Tony: "Well, I figured you'd be too busy to reply. You were at sea with 5,000 men." Paula: "I had trouble choosing." Tony: "Guess I'm a hard act to follow." Paula: "Actually, I was afraid of making the same mistake." Tony: "Do you need anything from your sleeping quarters?"Paula: "What you're thinking, that's against regs." Tony: "Great. You can handcuff me." Paula: "It's not going to happen, DiNozzo."Tony: "Why not?" Paula: "We're both game players." Tony: "Too much alike, huh?" Paula: "We would drive each other crazy." Tony: "Crazy's good." Paula: "Yeah."
- Tony mentions that he has plans to meet up with Paula for the weekend in Twilight.

- Paula does a few other guest appearances once trying to comfort Tony when suffering the loss of his partner, Special Agent Caitlin Todd.

| Season 4 |
- But the most significant episode that she is in after that is in the Fourth Season called "Grace Period". Tony is finding and sorting out his true feelings for Jeanne Benoit and is now over Paula (although he probably still did find her attractive!) but this episode is important because Paula gets killed in this episode. She saved the Special Agents Gibbs, DiNozzo, McGee and Officer David. Paula quoted in this episode to Tony when she was giving him advice with Jeanne "Life's too short not to tell someone you love them if you do." and at the end of the episode, Tony sees Jeanne. "I love you, Jeanne." he says as a single tear rolls down his check.
- Even though there was flirting and many hints of romance or a previous romance between Paula and Tony, there never will be again with Paula's demise in Season 4.
