Mark Harmonia sweeps the nation when he appears on St. Elsewhere as sex-crazed plastic surgeon Bobby Caldwell. Millions of women eagerly seek Harmon's opinion on the aesthetic qualities of their breasts, and millions of men consider changing careers.

America finds the drinking buddy it always wanted in a series of Coors ads that feature Rugged Regular Guy Mark canoeing on alpine lakes, hiking across Colorado glaciers, strolling through golden fields of barley, and enjoying a never-bitter Coors with the guys.

Mark challenges his clean-cut image with two risky moves: his St. Elsewhere character contracts AIDS (in TV's first portrayal of a heterosexual with the disease) and leaves the show; shortly after, Mark portrays serial killer Ted Bundy in The Deliberate Stranger.

People magazine names Mark Harmon "The Sexiest Man Alive" in an article that further cements his reputation as a loyal, capable, uncomplicated do-it-yourself guy. Mark's response: "When I look in the mirror, all I see is a bunch of fake teeth and football scars."
