◄ Back to Mark Harmon Reviews
Mark Harmon and Elizabeth Taylor starred in this adaptation of Tennessee Williams' classic play. Tell us what you think.
MargyW: Mark Harmon starred as Chance Wayne, failed wannabe actor, beach resort masseur and now inexperienced gigolo to Elizabeth Taylor's faded Hollywood Star, Alexandra. The role of Chance Wayne really showed us the depth Mark Harmon has as an actor. Chance is shallow, vain, and not very bright (he thinks he can string Alexandra along without actually having to "put out"... the lady is too smart for him!). There is a moment in the movie where Chance, having failed to blackmail Alexandra, realises that all he is is her plaything. Mark's body-language and facial expression (he pouts adorably) conveyed exactly what Chance was thinking. And they weren't happy thoughts! In the course of the movie, the cocksure Chance spirals down into despair and ultimately madness, as his world falls apart around him. Like all Tennessee Williams plays, the storyline is sordid and just plain unpleasant (Chance gets castrated at the end... what does that tell you?).That being said, Mark Harmon and Elizabeth Taylor shone in their respective roles. It was a great pity that the supporting cast wasn't of their calibre, making scenes without either star on screen very hard to watch.
Sorgiña: Excellent dialogue, plot, good all-round cast. The MH+Liz Tayler duel was excellent, with MH giving a really solid and convincing performance.
