Season 3 premiered on Tuesday, September 20, 2005. The beginning of season 3 was one in mourning as the team buried Special Agent Caitlin "Kate" Todd. We saw the addition of two new members to the team, Director Jenny Shepard, who we learned has not only a work history with Gibbs, but a personal one as well. Mossad Liaison Officer, Ziva David joined the team as well. We learned quickly that she is the half-sister of terrorist, Ari Haswari. In doing the right thing and earning Gibbs' trust, Ziva killed her half-brother to save Gibbs life.
We were introduced to Gibb's first partner, Mike Franks, who also referred to Gibbs' as "Probie." This very familiar nickname that now belongs to McGee. The shocking season finale saw Gibbs injured and suffering memory loss. After being frustrated with the Agency's handling of a case, Gibbs turned in his badge and gun and walked out.

- The shocking season finale had Gibbs injured with some memory loss. As he slowly recovered, Gibbs retired from NCIS and left to join ex-boss, Mike Franks who calls him Probie, in Baja, Mexico by the beach.
