BURY YOUR DEAD
22nd December 2009
The season opener for season 5 and written by Shane Brennan, "Bury Your Dead" was strong on drama and emotion. This did make for a very unbalanced episode, because there was very little humor to leaven the mix.
The most powerful scene would have to be that at the explosion site. Everyone slowly and reluctantly approaching the destroyed car. Tony's car. The anguish on Gibbs' face. The shock and misery on the faces of the others. The guilt on Jenny's face. Barely a word is spoken, but none are needed. This scene reminded us what a brilliantly talented group of actors work NCIS.
The scene in autopsy when Ducky realizes that because there is no scarring in the lungs, the corpse hasn't had Y Pestis, and therefore can't be Tony.
Hard to go past the appearance of Trent Kort. Especially when he bundles Tony up against the wall of the elevator....and three guns are drawn on him. Even a CIA weasel knows when he's out numbered and out classed.
My favorite scene would have to be the scene in Jenny's office when Tony is being debriefed. Tony faces Jenny down and refuses to give her information on Jeanne. Gibbs just sits there with a faint smile on his face that says "That's my boy." Gibbs' pride in Tony is obvious.
The scene in Jenny's house with Rene Benoit just showed how pathetic and selfish Jenny had become. She put her own obsession before her duty to her country. I'm afraid the irritation I had felt towards the character of Jenny during season 4, turned to outright contempt after this scene.
For all its emotional power and drama, "Bury Your Dead" gave us very few truly memorable lines.
McGee: Do you believe in miracles, Ziva?
Ziva: Not part of my training.
Gibbs: Is that when you mislaid your frog this morning?
Tony: Hey! My car blew up this morning. Did you do that?
Tony: Happy Frog Hunting.
Rene: I can no longer trust Kort.
Gibbs (with a grin): Could you ever?

WHY I DON'T LIKE TONY
21st December 2009
A little controversy to start the week. *grins* Why I personally do not like one of the shows most popular characters.
- Sexist. Views every woman he meets through the prism of her sexual attractiveness to him. This is a very outmoded attitude and has lead to his inability to form lasting relationships.
- Childish. Not to be confused with McGee's childlike innocence. Tony is childish. Actually, he's a complete brat. Sulks when he doesn't get his own way. Would have benefited from being spanked a few more times as a child.
- Narcissistic. Spends all his money on expensive clothes and a large portion of his free time preening and staring into mirrors. Feels the need to tell everyone how much his clothes cost. Equates money with personal value. Ducky considers him to be a case of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, though with some empathy. The empathy is about the only thing that stops the character from becoming totally unlikeable.
- Obsession with Old Movies. The continual quoting from old movies was an endearing character quirk at first. Now it's just downright irritating.
- Obsessive Need for Attention. This is part of NPD. Tony needs to be first in Gibbs' world. Back in the season 2 episode "The Good Wives Club" he angsts when Kate and McGee are introduced before he is. He views this as Gibbs no longer caring for him. He is no longer number one in Gibbs view. This actually paints quite a sad, pathetic picture of Tony. In the light of this comes the realization that he actively seeks head slaps from Gibbs as a sign that he has Gibbs' full attention.
I am sure very few fans will agree with my blog this morning. But, as always, I would love your feedback.

20th December 2009
The season 4 Halloween episode "Witch Hunt" written by Steven Kriozere is a firm fan favorite, and with good reason. A simple plot involving the shooting of an enlisted Marine and the abduction of his daughter ends up twisting and turning like a snake on hot rocks.
This episode has a lot of memorable scenes. Tony and Ziva playing the components of McGee's Halloween costume. The look on Gibbs' face when he spots Ziva wearing the elf hat with attached ears!
The scene where Ducky's van has been egged by teenagers...and we discover he personally chased them for three blocks, caught them, and then bundled them into the van. When he arrives at the crime scene, he proceeds to make them clean the van, and, I expect, walk home!
The standout scene, though, has to be the one at the actual crime scene. A freaked out McGee when the bullet casings disappear and the blood is smeared on the floor when his back is turned. Followed by Tony's hissy fit when something touches his foot. The expressions on the faces of Gibbs, Tony and McGee when the robot vacuum cleaner trundles out from under the couch is magical.
The scene in autopsy, with Ducky attempting to comfort Ziva, is also very good.
Cannot forgot the scene in the lab, when Tony and McGee see Abby in her Marilyn Monroe costume. Both men look like they have been hit with bricks. They do get hit by Gibbs. Yet another double head slap. Gibbs, when he sees the costume is merely amused.
"Witch Hunt" is a fun episode with a lot of extremely good lines.
McGee: I'm going to a costume party later tonight.
Gibbs: Not any more, Elf Lord.
Tony: Something's under the couch.
McGee: Maybe it's the Crime Scene Fairy, Tony.
Abby: McGee. What's wrong with you? You look three cans short of a six pack.
Gibbs: Scuttlebutt is what Marines call gossip.
Ziva: And you wonder why I have a problem with your language?
Party Guest: Great costume guys, but you spelled CSI wrong on your hat.
Ducky: You know about mother bears and their cubs.
Ziva: They eat them when the food runs out.
Ziva: So you do agree with me?
Gibbs: Oh yeah. You definitely screwed up.
Abby: Is there something I should know?
Ziva: He wants to devour me.
Abby: And they say blonds have more fun.
Tony: Halloween Ziva. Be happy it only happens once a year.

19th December 2009
Time to take a look at the episodes of season 3 that really didn't float my boat, as the saying goes.
- Kill Ari Parts 1 & 2. The soft porn flashbacks and the fantasies about Kate made this double episode an exercise in cringing and mild nausea.
- Under Covers. Sorry Tiva fans, but I really don't like this episode. I found it boring. Probably because I hadn't warmed to Ziva at this point in the season.
- Frame Up and Probie. Nothing much really wrong with either episode, but I found team member in peril two episodes in a row was just too much to deal with. Left me with a mild dislike for both episodes.
- Boxed In. Too much Tony and Ziva. Tony is not my favorite character, and I was only just starting to warm to Ziva at this point. Only highlight was at the end when the crooked dispatcher suddenly finds Gibbs' gun resting on the back of his neck, and Ziva's mad dash for the bathroom.
- Hiatus Part 1 & 2. Gibbs nearly killed. Gibbs breaking down. Gibbs leaving NCIS. This double episode had too much raw emotional power for me to be comfortable watching. Gibbs crying for Shannon and Kelly is such a powerful piece of acting from Mark Harmon, that it rips me apart to watch it.
Do you agree with my selection? Have you own? I would love to hear from you.
