FAVORITE EPISODES OF SEASON 3
12th December 2009
Today I will take a look at the episodes of season 3 that I love.
- Mind Games. A serial killer who looks uncannily like Ted Bundy and Gibbs trying to get him to reveal where the bodies are buried. An excellent episode with the character of Paula Cassidy making an appearance.
- Model Behavior. A model is murdered during a reality TV show. Tony spends almost the entire episode drooling.
- Head Case. A favorite if only for the expressions on Gibbs and Ziva's faces when they find the head in the box in the trunk of the car!
- Family Secret. An ambulance transporting the body of a dead marine is blown up. Why? Intricate plot, and memorable for the sight of Gibbs head slapping himself. This one is one of my all time favorite episodes.
- Ravenous. People being eaten by bears and a serial killing ranger! One heck of an episode. Gibbs shooting the fleeing ranger in the ass, and that small smile as he does so, is the thing everyone remembers about "Ravenous". This episode is another of my all time favorites.
- Bloodbath. Abby in peril from a stalker. The men all try to protect her; the women give her the means to protect herself. The scene in Gibbs' basement with a drunk Abby and a patient, fatherly Gibbs is a fan favorite.
Do you agree with my choice? Have your own preferences? I would love to hear from you.

WHY NCIS WITH MARK HARMON IS TV'S Nº 1 SHOW
11th December
The title of this entry is that of the WSJ.com article which goes into detail as to the reasons behind the success of NCIS. According to the article in question, a priori NCIS shouldn't be so successful, in that it's format is reminiscent of TV series aired 2 decades ago. Yet, at the same time it is precisely this format, which makes its reruns so successful unlike other series. What is this format you might ask? Well, it's series whose episodes are essentially stand alones, unlike say for example 24 or Lost, where if you miss an episode you've missed important storylines, this doesn't happen here. Another part of its appeal is the family nature of its target audience, again reminiscent of the era when TV aired series like The Waltons.
Apparently according to Nielsen the mean age range of viewers is 56!!! They obviously haven't visited this site!!! The article states the series is not very popular among the younger public!! Come on!! Who on earth did the market research here?!
Said article also mentions, that in the New Year will probably not be leading the ratings since American Idol will be back - This means we have to prove them wrong, i.e. this Christmas you're all on recruitment duty to get any American Idol followers among your family, friends and acquaintances and persuade them to switch on to NCIS in the New Year.
Really, I shouldn't scoff so much at the article, since it's probably the only one, I've read to date, which has actually considered all the ins and outs of the series, regarding the whyfor and wherefor of its success; and as such well worth the read, even if you don't agree with the information there. Clearly, the journalist, who wrote the article, Amy Chozik, has really gone to a lot of time and trouble to produce a good article. You have a link to it in this entry, and I've also copied and pasted it here for those of you who would like to read it on here, just click HERE for the article.

TONY AS NATURAL SUCCESSOR TO GIBBS - FOLLOW UP
10th December 2009
A while ago I did a blog on Tony as natural successor to Gibbs. I got some great feedback on the blog, so thought a follow up was in order.
The response was unanimous that Tony is the natural successor to Gibbs. Also unanimous was the response that as long as it doesn't happen for at least the next 10-12 seasons! Tony is loved, but Gibbs is adored.
Rosecake pointed out that Gibbs considers Tony to be his successor. In the season four episode "Singled Out", Gibbs told Jenny that he wouldn't have quit if he hadn't been sure that Tony was ready to have his own team. Even though it is still obvious that Tony doesn't feel he is ready to have his own team. Of course, Tony may not want the responsibility. He's having too much fun being Gibbs' 2IC. A situation that has it's parallels in Star Trek: The Next Generations' Picard/Riker relationship. Now there's another blog topic!
Once again, thank you to everyone who responded to the original blog.

10th December
In less than a week we have the last episode of 2009 until after the Christmas break, hopefully it will be Nº 1 in the ratings like all the episodes previous to date. Certainly the episode is one of expectation with the reappearance of Ralph Waite as Gibbs' father and the discovery of a family a secret, then in the 2nd episode in 2010, which is 7.12 Flesh and Blood (also the 150th episode of the series), we will have the appearance of Robert Wagner as DiNozzo's father. An interesting title for that episode too. These scriptwriters really love playing with words and idiomatic expressions - no doubt Ziva could have a lot to say about that:-)
By the way, there's another promo photo up for next week's episode where Abby has dressed the skeleton up as Father Christmas!!! Of course, it could only occur to her to dress a skeleton up as a Christmas figure or may be the scriptwriters were partying when that idea came up - LOL
And for some Christmas fun I've set up a page so you can add your Christmas icons - Click Here.
