NCIS - NCIS:LOS ANGELES CROSSOVER
19th November
Next week's episode is a crossover between the 2 series with the character of Abby appearing in the NCIS: Los Angeles episode, and at the end of NCIS S6 we had NCIS:Los Angeles slotted into the NCIS episodes.
How do people feel about this kind of thing? I know it's pretty popular in fanfiction, but to what extent is this practical or even beneficial for the series involved apart from the introduction of a spin-off as in the case of the Legend episodes last season, or the NCIS characters being introduced in JAG. I mean beyond that is there any real sense in mixing up the 2 series. I mean I can understand the character of Vance since he's very much a general character in that he is the head of the NCIS agency, therefore, he belongs to both series, but what about the rest of the characters.
I confess I have a certain difficulty in wrapping my head around this, since I really don't see where the 2 series slot in, as they're different units designed for combatting crimes in totally different environments. NCIS being the main 'police' squad so to speak and NCIS: Los Angeles special ops, which in principle are two different jurisdictions.
Somehow I'm not convinced about this overlapping, although I could be totally wrong. If we were talking about a film, I could understand the combination more, but television doesn't seem the right medium for this.
This topic came up because of a fanfic I read the other day, which was a crossover with a totally different series (extremely well-written I might add), and it just got me thinking, and I thought I'd put the question to you all.
Y con esto y un bizcocho se acabó lo que se dió.

WHY YOU LIKE ABBY
19th November 2009
Since I got a good response to my blog on why I liked Abby, I thought I'd take a look at your reasons why you like Abby.
Apart from my reasons, a large number of fans give Abby's clothes as a reason. Picking out items they have in their own wardrobes, or would like to have, or now, having seen them, intend adding to their wardrobe. I will even admit to having a few Abby inspired pieces in my own wardrobe.
Another reason given is that Abby isn't a stereotype. Most scientist types in television and movies are either Dr Strangelove level crazy, or geeked up to a maximum irritation factor. Abby has her career, but she isn't only her career. The character is well rounded and believable.
The final reason given is Abby's hyperactivity. Whether you view it with delight, or point it out as an example of the dangers of overdosing on sugar and caffeine, Abby's over the top personality is probably the thing that most fans love about the character.
Thank you to everyone who responded to my original blog.

18th November
More than entry this is more a plug. I just received today my copy of NCIS Soundtrack Vol 2, and the quality is exceptional. The music is very varied although totally unlike any of the styles which appeared on the first volume, strange as that may seem given the fact the first volume had 2 CDs, whereas this has only one.
The talents of the NCIS cast in different artistic styles know no end. On this CD we have a song written and sung by Michael Weatherly entitled Bitter and Blue, which is quite exceptional, beginning with Weatherly's voice. He sounds like a younger version of Leonard Cohen, with a voice almost as deep. His diction is as clear singing as when he acts, rather like Pauley Perrette in that aspect.
Having listend to both volumes, I'd say it would be interesting to have a duo with Pauley Perrette and Michael Weatherly as their voices would complement each other even their styles, Cote's is in a totally different range. No less interesting, but perhaps wouldn't fit in as a duo with Pauley or Michael.
I bought my copy on Amazon, and the price was absolutely ridiculous, so those of you, who are still undecided, I thoroughly recommend you go out and buy your copy now, either online or from your music shop. Perhaps we can push this CD to the top of the music lists and earn it a Platinum record.

GIBBS AND ELI DAVID
18th November 2009
If ever there was an antagonistic pairing heading for a major showdown it is Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Eli David.
Their paths first crossed in season 6 "Last Man Standing" when Gibbs is talking to Ziva on the telephone. The phone is in Eli's office and is on speaker so he can hear what is being said. Eli David is not best pleased when Ziva picks up the receiver so that the call becomes semi-private. He can only hear her side of the conversation.
The men physically meet for the first time in the season 6 finale "Aliyah". Their meeting is cool and restrained. Like two large dogs eyeballing each other.
Eli David must have been smarting when an NCIS team, lead by Gibbs, rescued his daughter from the hands of terrorists. Something he himself was not prepared to do. He had written his daughter off. Not an attitude designed to make a close personal friend out of our Gibbs.
As Ziva is a fairly straightforward person in many ways, you can bet that she told Eli that she no longer considers him to be her father, that Gibbs now fills that position in her heart.
The proverbial hit the fan in "Good Cop, Bad Cop", when Malachi Ben-Gidon tried to frame Ziva for the murder of the former Marine on the mission that lead to her capture. Ben-Gidon's orders must have come from Eli David. Eli David is not a man who responds well to subordinates being creative on his time. Remember how he sent another agent to take out Rivkin? It looked very much to me like Eli's plan was to disgrace Ziva in the eyes on NCIS. They probably couldn't charge her with murder, Mossad would arrange for diplomatic immunity for her, but she would have had to leave the USA. The only place she could go would be back to Israel and Daddy. Thanks to Gibbs, DiNozzo and Abby, Eli's plan was foiled.
Eli David's callous treatment of his daughter has earned him Gibbs' enmity, and Gibbs has earned David's by being the father he cannot, by his own nature, ever be.
Leon Vance felt it necessary to warn David to stay away from Gibbs, when David was ranting on the telephone at the end of "Good Cop, Bad Cop". Eli David won't take that advice. At some point in the series, be it this season or a future one, there will be a showdown between Gibbs and David.
I am betting Gibbs will win.
