Agur guztioi

MOTHER'S DAY REVISITED

24th June 2010

I got an excellent response to my blog on this season 7 episode.

Opinion on the episode was very divided. Some considered it a great episode. Others consider it one of the weakest of the season. The thing that rankled most with people was Gibbs' "bungled" arrest of Joann. It caused massive irritation amongst viewers. Sandra155 summed up the reaction best: "I was initially stunned by Gibbs' actions, but automatically thought that he had acted that way for a reason. Call it blind faith if you will..."

Looking at it again after the season finale, it takes on a slightly different complexion. A casual comment from Paloma Reynosa told us that she knew that Joann had been the one behind the killing of one of her cartel. Paloma threatened to kill her. She did not threaten to kill Gibbs' ex-wives, but specifically his mother-in-law. Along with his father and his team. She mentions the killing of the private detective Joann paid to hunt for the cartel. It isn't beyond the bounds of possibility to think that Paloma had the detective tortured before they left him to dehydrate to death. Certainly she would access his computer records to discover who his client was. All this many mean that Joann will be part of the story arc of season 8 that involves cleaning up the fall out from Patriot Down & Rule Fifty-One.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my original blog. I really enjoy the discussions we have on the blogs.

GIBBS AND MARGARET ALLISON HART

23rd June 2010

One of the most intriguing storylines throughout season 7 was the introduction of lawyer Margaret Allison Hart. We first met her in the episode "Ignition". From the start, she confuses Gibbs. As he says to Ducky, "She acts like she hates me, but talks like she likes me." Prompting the response from Ducky of "Ever been married to her?"

The plot thickens when we discover that Margaret Allison Hart is Col Merton Bell's lawyer and has been tracking down information on Gibbs for him. We might want to talk about the legality of a lawyer collecting information on another person for what is obviously the purpose of revenge. Ms Hart should have thought long and hard before agreeing to Col Bell's request. Gibbs would have a good case for having her debarred as a lawyer, or whatever it is they do to lawyers in the USA. Her behavior was invasion of privacy at the very least. You could also make a really good case for stalking as well.

Somewhere along the line, Margaret Allison Hart become intrigued with Gibbs for her own sake, not Col Bell's. That was why she intercepted the forensic report of the shooting of Pedro Hernandez. Oh yeah, she forgot something during her rant about Gibbs being an officer sworn to uphold the law and not taking justice into his own hands. He wasn't a law enforcement officer when he killed Hernandez....just an angry, grieving US Marine who knew that in this instance the law couldn't give him justice.

Gibbs is certainly not attracted to Margaret Allison Hart. There is no chemistry between them. Certainly none of the spark that is evident in Gibbs' interactions with Holly Snow is present when Gibbs is with Margaret.

I do think, however, that friendship between Gibbs and Hart is a possibility. Gibbs has admitted, to himself, that Rule 13 (Never, ever involve lawyers) is sometimes wrong. It may just be the start of a beautiful friendship.

DESIGNATED TARGET

22nd June 2010

This season 5 episode was one of the weakest of the season. Written by Reed Steiner, the team encounter an African political refugee looking for her husband while the investigate the assassination of an admiral. But was the admiral the real target?

One good thread running throughout the episode was a decaffeinated Abby. Not a sight we usually see. And like all converts she spent most of her time trying to convert Gibbs to a caffeine free life-style. You knew that just wasn't going to happen.

The subplot of McGee's new crazy girlfriend was a good one. There was a very good scene with Tony and Ziva stalking Tim around the evidence garage trying to eavesdrop on his telephone conversation with the girl.

My main complaint with the episode was Tony, and to a lesser extent, Ziva being out of character. Tony in particular was extremely xenophobic, rude, bitter and downright nasty towards Ziva throughout this episode. I spent most of the time the character was on screen wanting to plant my boot in his backside. Especially after the nasty, sneering look Tony gives Ziva right at the very end of the show.

Redeeming the show from total mediocrity were some great lines.

Tony: I recognize that look. You had sex last night and I'm guessing it was with a girl.

Tony: You know repeated head trauma causes brain damage?
McGee: That explains a lot.

Gibbs: That lipstick on your collar, McGee?
McGee: Well...
Gibbs: Good for you, Tim, good for you. Just don't ever get married.

Tony: Oh look at him. He's all grown up. Having his first fight.

Abby: Would I call you down here to watch me fail?

Ziva: You see what I see?
Tony: Crazy Israeli chick with impulse issues?

McGee: Just push the buttons I tell you to push, monkey.

McGee: I'm nuts for this girl. And she's just nuts!

Abby: The crazy ones are the best.

Abby: Love is never having to read her her Miranda Rights.

Abby: Throw her psycho ass in the brig.
