MORE ODDS & SODS

13th August

A few issues were still left undealt with. I just basically want to remind people that this is an interactive site, i.e . you participate in this site, and the more who do the better the site will become not to mention move up the Wetpaint ranking league. I know there are some of you out there who effectively do participate and do so quite frequently, however, there are an awful lot who are content to sit on the sidelines and watch, or simply gripe. This site along with its satellites is one of team work, where we all have to pull, not to just one or two. I mean if only one or two people pull why bother to have any more members, this the impression particularly on the satellite sites, which people may feel there is little movement, but the fact of the matter is, that only one or two people literally are doing any work, therefore, it's impossible to advance. Nobody's asking you to build the Escorial, but simply add your grain of sand apart from your profile. Nobody's asking you to be brilliant or witty, just simply form a part of the team. Functioning as a team we can do so much more.

For example, the translations here are only done by one or two people - but hey the Spanish/French/German versions need not be translations but a summary of what you watched in the that language. There's nothing to stop you helping to complete the episodes in the various languages, which I'm sure many of you could do, all you have to remember is to use the standard form of any language i.e. mainland or neutral Spanish, French, German, etc. Why do I keep nagging about this issue? Well, the added value of this wiki is that's it a polyglot site for US product watched throughout the world in many different languages, where we don't require subsites in other languages because we have a space for it here. Plus the fact it fosters intercultural connections and language learning. And I really feel we can make a serious go of this.

On the satellite wikis more interaction is required on the Michael Weatherly, Cote de Pablo, Sean Murray and Muse Watson sites. The Mark Harmon site is pretty ineractive although it's the same names appearing again and again, which is said considering the name.

I'm going to put up a suggestions/complaints box page between now and the weekend for you to add things, and I expect to see very different names and not just those who regularly participate; because this site has a lot going for it but it lacks cohesion to make this a team effort, so that we become a reference point for other sites.

Obviously it would be nice to make it to Nº 1 eventually on the rankings, but to be a reference for other sites on TV series / characters on how to make a site fully interactive with everyone taking part, however, small, that is the same. To convert ourselves into a standard against which others measure themselves, and look up to us for guidance.

Thanks for your understanding and comprehension.

Y con esto y un bizcocho, se acabó lo que se dió

SPOILERS - OFFICIAL AND OTHERWISE

12th August 2009

As season 7 rapidly approaches, I thought it was time to reiterate our position on spoilers, and what is and is not acceptable on this site.

Official spoilers are acceptable. These are snippets of information released to the media by CBS or by Shane Brennan. Shane Brennan's usually come in the form of teasers given out to trusted media people such as Michael Ausiello or Matt Rousch, or any other avenue that Shane may choose to utilize. These are usually hints, or more usually cryptic comments, about forthcoming events.

Unofficial spoilers are, to be blunt, stolen material. Casting documentation, writers synopsis or other information that you find on the internet has been illegally distributed. That material has never been officially released to the media or onto the internet and never will be. When you circulate this information, you are handling stolen goods. End of story.

We will not allow the dissemination of this stolen material on this site. All such material that comes into our hands is immediately passed on to the production company. Any member posting said material will be warned the first time and if it occurs again, their membership will be revoked.

Spoilers may seem a little thing, but they cause much stress and heartache for cast and crew. Imagine working hard to create a wonderful surprise....then have someone run around telling the intended recipient of the surprise all about it. You know how you would feel. Can you imagine how it makes the cast and crew feel?

"Judgment Day" was almost ruined by the information leaking that Jenny had been shot and killed. Even last season, it was hard work keeping Trent Kort getting shot in "Dead Reckoning" off this site. That leak surfaced about a month to six weeks before the episode screened.

If you do come across any spoiler material, please send me a PM about it, supplying as much information as you can. I will see to it that it is passed along to the production company.

IDLE CURIOSITY or ODDS & SODS

12th August

Today's entry as the title suggests is a bit of everything and a lot about nothing in particular. While going about my daily rummage of this wiki and its satellites, I've noticed that whenever a page has the following request "Please do not change the format" , and which is generally written in red like now, you guarantee that at least one person if not half a dozen or more, will do just that without a by or leave, and it's something we're all guilty of - I include myself. Sometimes we do it because really the originally format was an absolute pig's ear, and we feel the need to rectify and improve, my own case, being a nitpicker by nature, all I can say is 'mea culpa, mea culpa'. Nevertheless, I frequently get the impression that there are those who couldn't give a damn and get off on flaunting authority/rules, etc., and others who haven't even read the instructions first place.

Another common feature on this wiki and its satellites, is that of people adding personal details like their age, phone number, E-mail address in their profile or directly on a page despite the fact of repeated messages from we, the moderators requesting members not to do so for their own safety as this is an open site, i.e. literally any one at all surfing the net can nose through this wiki and its satellites. I know members must think we're being terrible mother-hens, but there really are a lot of undesirables out there, whom we wouldn't give the time of idea and much less any personal details. Yet, people willynilly give this information away as if were locked inside some ivory tower where evil cannot gain access; well sorry to have to open your eyes, but we're not in an ivory tower, and yes, the wild wicked world can access here, just by googling NCIS, or Ducky Mallard, for example and up pops this site with some mention about the same.

Lazy-itis - this applies to photos uploaded to the photo gallery, instead of checking whether a photo is already here on our extensive gallery people upload again and again. I do realise sifting through gallery is a slow and arduous task, believe me I know as does agentnics, since we're steadily putting it to rights, weeding out the rubbish; so you know we understand this, really we do. This is why we send out frequent PMs asking people to think when uploading, etc. There are other areas where 'lazy-itis' exists, for example: hands up how many people here have actually read the Wiki Code of Conduct. Come on be honest! I know most of what's written there is common sense, but do we actually read it? Confess if I weren't a moderator I probably wouldn't have read it either, shouldn't really admit that I know, but it's just to show you I do understand; however, if you would all read it through at least once and paid attention to it, then it would be really nice. And don't forget, we do have it in several languages, which other wikis don't, so really there's no excuse.

The weekly polls - another lazy area this. When I check through to see how many people have voted, not the percentage, but the numbers who've hit the button; it's unusual to find more than 250 votes!!! Now considering we're over 5000 members it doesn't say much, I mean even when joined this site when we were just over 1500 members, 250 votes are very few. So please could a few more of you vote, it would be appreciated, even if some of the polls I create aren't very inspiring, it doesn't take a lot of effort to hit the button.

To end on a happier note, well, we are the only polyglot site among the wikis, the level of participation here is very high even if our position on the Wetpaint top 500 ranking doesn't reflect this; also I think we have one of the best photo galleries going not to mention extremely complete for a television series, likewise the level of fan art is exceptional here too.

Y esto y un bizcocho se acabó lo que se dió :-)

SEASON 5 - HIGH POINTS

11th August 2009

As season 5 is currently in re-run here in Australia, I thought it the perfect time to look at what are for me the high points of season 5.

  • The introduction of the character of Dr Jordan Hampton in the Jesse Stern written episode "Identity Crisis". We didn't know at the time that she would become Ducky's girlfriend.
  • The episode "Internal Affairs" which brought the dreadful La Grenouille storyline to an end. It also had the wonderful interrogation scenes that followed so smoothly one to another and provided some fantastic highlights in an episode packed with them.
  • Tony punching Trent Kort's lights out.
  • "Lost and Found" with mini-Tony. So funny that everyone could see it, except Tony.
  • The scene in "Bury Your Dead" where the team respond to the explosion of Tony's car. Barely a word was said, but emotion charged the air. Even now watching the dvd my eyes fill with tears....and I know Tony isn't dead. The acting in that scene is probably the finest from all the actors involved.
  • Another "Bury Your Dead" scene. The one in autopsy when Ducky realises the corpse's lungs are not scarred. Therefore the corpse hadn't had the plague and therefore couldn't be Tony.
  • Yet again from "Bury Your Dead" - the team all drawing their guns on Kort.
  • I know I am going to cop flak for this, but Jenny getting killed in "Judgment Day" was a highlight for me. Giving her a clean quick death rather than a slow one from illness.
  • The scene with Tony and McGee wrestling on the couch in the psychiatrist's office....and the psychiatrist getting totally the wrong idea.
Those are the ones I can think of that immediately stand out as highlights for me. I am sure you have others. Please let me have your feedback on this subject.
