Character Backstory:

Season 1:

First appeared in "Bête Noire" when he infiltrated NCIS Autopsy and took Ducky, Gerald and Kate hostage. His job was to recover a dead terrorist Kasam's body and evidence as he had been planing an infection attack. He shoots Gerald in the shoulder when Ducky attempts to trick him. He shot Gibbs in the shoulder as well before escaping dressed as a FBI hostage team member.
For the episodes following, Gibbs has a slight obsession on finding the identity of the terrorist. As Tony puts it "Gibbs is like a dog. He’ll gnaw at an old bone until you throw him a steak. When he’s done with the steak, he goes back to the old bone. The terrorist is Gibbs’ old bone."
Ari next appears in "Reveille", McGee discovers his name as well. Ari appears to be attempting to kidnap President Bush, and kidnaps Kate in an attempt to help do this. He later reveals to Kate that he is a mole inside Hamas and that he is really Mossad. He prevents the missile strike on Marine One.

Season 2:

In the second season, he only is referenced in "An Eye for an Eye" when Gibbs threatens to blow his cover in order to kill a *********.

However, Ari returns in the season finale where he kills Kate. Initially he was running a terrorist cell in Washington D.C. and had turned from his role as mole. Initially Agent Fornell believed he was here to assassinate Gibbs, which he attempted to do with a bomb outside a Coffee Shop. He helped a group of terrorists attempt to kill a load of Navy families at Norfolk Port. While Gibbs and his team prevent this, it costs Kate her life as Ari snipes her from around 600 m (656 yd). Ari does say sorry to Caitlin after this.

Season 3:

In the opening two episodes of Season 3, it centres around Gibbs revenge upon Ari. Ari attempts to kill Abby as torture to Gibbs because he lost his wife and daughter in 1991. Ari then kidnaps Gerald again, and exchanges him for Ducky in an attempt to prove his innocence. He shows interest in Ducky's Morgan and somewhat convinces Ducky that he didn't kill Kate. He tells Ducky that he is sorry that Gibbs will never believe him and that one of them will have to die.

Ari is then lured into Gibbs basement in an attempt to finally kill Gibbs. Ziva kills Ari when Ari points Gibbs own weapon at him.
