| | - The US Navy's fleet has a problem: Defective wiring on the ships can overheat and be triggered to cause explosions -- and someone with bad intentions knows about it. This is the problem the team will face for the rest of the season.
- While he was out walking clearing his head for the Final Four while he was at Ohio State, DiNozzo saved 9-year-old Jason King from an arson fire, but was unable to save his 4-year-old sister. Jason has blamed DiNozzo for his sister's death ever since, but the experience led Jason to focus his life on fire investigation.
- DiNozzo decided to become a cop because of the kid (Jason) he saved in Baltimore, but almost didn't. For the first time in his life, he felt that he had made a difference that night, and wanted to continue making a difference every day.

- McGee plays Skyrim. (When Jack Murdoch needled McGee about playing Skyrim "and other dorky games", McGee said that he played them "Until I took an arrow through my knee." A minor character in the Skyrim game tells anyone that will listen that he was a warrior until he took an arrow through his knee.)
- Tony has previously said that he was the varsity captain of the Ohio State basketball team. In this episode, we learn that his team made it to the semi-final round (the "Final Four") of the NCAA basketball tournament for the national championship. Tony's team was playing UCLA in that round. We don't know if they won or lost that game.
- Jason apparently tracked DiNozzo over the years, knew about Tony's basketball prowess, and claimed that his jumpshot was even better than Tony's.
