SYNOPSIS
After two Marines are ambushed, the NCIS team finds the investigation leads back to Gibbs' hometown, where secrets about his past are revealed and they meet up with Jackson Gibbs, Jethro's father, and two of his old enemies. (CBS Press Release)
FUNNY MOMENTS
  • McGee's and Ziva outrageous theories on how Gibbs "emerged" rather than born and bred as the rest of us mere humans!

  • Tony's face when Gibbs tells him to stay at headquarters.

  • The reactions of both Ziva and McGee when Gibbs introduces his father to them.

  • Ziva and McGee pushing each other into the store to call Abby and Tony and inform them of Gibbs' father.

  • Tony, at long last, finds that someone that can answer all the questions about Gibbs he has yearned for. He was told "two questions', by Gibbs, which was soon reduced to one. by Tony himself.

  • Gibbs driving off in his custom car, as the team looks on, and he had the goofy, yet sexy, smile on his face

  • Abby turning to Jackson Gibbs and saying "Are you always awkward around women"

  • Jackson heard McGee call Gibbs "Boss", Jackson turns to Gibbs, "You make them call you Boss, he.." Gibbs gives his Dad a look.

  • Ducky doing Groucho Marx.

  • The look on McGee's face when he enters the store and find Gibbs cleaning the floor.

  • The entire sequence with Gibbs and his father alone in the store with Gibbs pricing the goods and working as a store aide.

DEVELOPMENT/INSIGHTS
  • We now know where Gibbs gets his rules to live by. His wife, Shannon. When they met, she told him she lived by a code of conduct, her rules. She was also the first to call him Gibbs, although his father calls him Leroy. Shannon is also where he gets "workin' on it."

  • Gibbs was mad when his Dad brought a girlfriend to his wife and daughter's funeral.. but Jackson explained that he loved Gibbs' mother, but he had to live his life after Gibbs' mother died. The grudge wore away by the end of the episode.

  • We can never go back in time, but when you do go back to Stillwater, it's nice to have the power over the local cop who wasn't your best friend back then. It was not revenge..Gibbs wanted, but it sure made him feel good to show up 30 years later and you know what they say about payback....!!! Even though it's a cold meal, it sure warms your insides.

  • This is the first time ever that we hear Gibbs saying he is tired.

  • Gibbs may be an alpha male, but his dad is leader of the pack: at breakfast, they both want to drink coffee in silence and read the paper. They want to read the same bit of the paper, but it is dad who determines which bit Gibbs' gets. He tries to sneak a peek at the bit he wants, but says nothing when dad folds the paper and the sports page gets hidden. Their actions are otherwise identical and synchronous.

  • Watching the emotions run through Gibbs when he first sees his old car refinished and realizing what his dad did.

  • When Jackson tells McGee and Ziva that his partner LJ full name was Leroy Jethro, and the two of them realized that Gibbs was named after his dad's best friend.

EPISODE TRIVIA

  • Gibbs' Dad is played by Ralph Waite who played John Walton, the dad on The Waltons TV show.

  • Young LJ Gibbs is played by Sean Harmon, Mark Harmon's son.

  • The custom car was a Challenger R/T, with a Hemi... a real dream car.

  • Abby cheats at "Punch Buggy"..

  • Gibbs calls his dad by his Christian name

  • The song on Gibbs' car radio, whilst he is looking down the years, is Michael Buble's "Lost".

  • The song (From the Marriage of Figaro) that Ducky is humming on arrival at the crime scene is about soldiers going off to die: clearly an 'in joke' for the cognoscenti that he is humming it at the crime scene for a dead marine.
  • The song Ducky was humming: "Non piu andrai"

  • The Black and white photo of Jack in the cockpit of a P-51 mustang confirms that Jack flew a Mustang in WWII.

Scarecrow4 Overnight Nielsen Ratings for Repeat of "Heartland" 6 Mar 12 2009, 11:10 AM EDT by NCISlover161
Thread started: Mar 11 2009, 12:37 PM EDT  Watch
Here are the overnight Nielsen Ratings for the repeat airing of Episode 4 "Heartland"...

Even though it’s “February” sweeps, the competition seems bent on avoiding direct battle with American Idol. With the only meaningful competition from Biggest Loser, Idol and Fox had better demo ratings than all its English broadcast competition combined. NBC feasted on the demo leftovers for a second place finish, while ABC was beaten in the demos by Univision. CBS repeats, as is typical, were able to put the older viewers in the seats.

Dominating the night, American Idol was up 0.3 ratings points in the 18-49 demo and just a fraction in 18-34 from last Tuesday. I wrote that Reaper could be back if it held onto its premiere ratings, and considering that Daylight Savings Time kicked in since last week (which can depress early show ratings), it didn’t do too badly, losing just a tick in its 18-49 rating and holding steady in its 18-34 rating. Future weeks will determine whether it stays or goes at the end of the season. Biggest Loser was also up a few ticks in the demos from last week as well.

With no new scripted competition, and with seemingly the last drop of blood wrung from the Bachelor stone, NBC’s Law and Order: SVU was an easy demo winner at 10.

Show ------- 18-49 Rating / Share ----------- Total Viewers In Millions

1.American Idol (2 Hrs) ------- 9.4 / 24 ---------- 25.239 Mil.

2.The Mentalist (R) -------- 2.8 / 7 -------- 14.246 Mil.

3.NCIS (R) ----------- 2.7 / 7 ---------- 13.332 Mil.

4.Law and Order :SVU -------- 3.7 / 10 -------- 11.039 Mil.

5.Without A Trace (R) -------- 2.1 / 6 ---------- 10.186 Mil.
