Synopsis:
When a non-commissioned officer is shot dead on the freeway, the NCIS team takes on the investigation. The first lead, a fact that the victim was leading a double life, takes them to a possible solution of the crime, but the tables are turned when the victim's dying message is discovered, and it leads them to a totally different clue.

New Character Development / Insights:
  • We get to see Ziva's human side as she showed empathy when interviewing the victim's wife at the crime although she had just warned Gibbs that she was not good with women.
  • Abby still doesn't like Ziva very much.
  • Ziva tries hard to be nice to Abby and help her so Abby won't dislike her as much.
  • Ziva mentions she knows and speaks five languages.
  • The elevator scene between Ziva and Gibbs shows Ziva is willing to stand up for herself even to Gibbs.
  • Tony knows all the ins and outs about "Magnum PI" including the details of Tom Selleck's character's shirt... and he LOVES Hawaiian shirts.
Funny Moments:
  • At the crime scene the police man thinks Tony is Gibbs and Tony corrects him: "No, he's the older gentleman with the smile on his face.
  • Gibbs tells McGee to do the sketches for the crime scene and to go close enough without breaking his neck, then turns to Tony and tells him to take photos. Tony stares at him indignantly. Gibbs: "Is there a problem?" Tony (still indignant): "You didn't say anything about my neck!" After the famous Gibbs stare: "I'll be careful."
  • Tony reveals his identity was stolen once as well; someone used it to buy a vintage Barbie doll - thus revealing how Tony was able to relate Abby's appearance in professional clothing to Career Girl Barbie in the previous episode.
  • The whole scene at the crime scene between Ducky, Tony and Tim. Ducky had already gone down the slope expertly and reached the crashed car and his "patient" and afterwards, he assures the "patient" that they would get him out he yells up: "Is anybody going to join me down here?" Tim: "Gibbs said not to get too close." Tony: "Yeah, you really shouldn't be down there Ducky, it's not safe." Ducky then points out his reason for wanting them down as crucial to the investigation. Tony and Tim start bantering. Tim to Tony: "Well, as you pointed out many time, I'm just the junior field agent." Tony: "All the more reason you need the experience, probie." Tim: "How about I follow in your footsteps, you lead the way?" Tony: "How about you kiss my experienced buttocks?" Poor Ducky had to resort to threatening them with Gibbs.
  • Ziva interviewing Petty Officer Smith.
  • Tim says he'd rather die than wear a Hawaiian shirt, and then is forced to wear one.
  • Palmer falls down the slope and hurts himself showing his clumsy side. He's worried about Ducky's reaction but Tony (helpfully) tells him not to worry about Ducky but about Gibbs who "would pretty much kill you dead."
  • Gibbs: "I'd hate to start smacking you like I do DiNozzo." Abby: "You wouldn't!" Gibbs stare, "You would?" Gibbs: "It won't be on the head!
  • Tony and Ziva's conversation while watching the interrogation and all the "couldn't keep it in his pants" bit!
  • When Abby told Gibbs to squint at the screen to try and see the big picture.
  • Gibbs almost flipping himself upside down trying to look at the crime scene photo.
Trivia:
  • Gibbs Rules: Gibbs reveals that there are actually about 50 rules and that they are not written down. It is his job to teach them to his agents.
  • McGee has a Visa, MasterCard, American Express and a Diners Club card.
  • Boom mic shadow is visible near the end of the scene where the team meet "Max". Tim says that Max is the most popular pet name, according to Snapple. As Tony replies that he thought it was Tim, the boom mic shadow moves across Tony's face.
