See No Evil

Synopsis:
Gibbs and his team face a challenge when the wife and 9-year-old daughter of a Navy captain are kidnapped from their home, and the captain is held hostage in his own office.

Episode Recap:
A Navy Captain is taken hostage by his own computer in his office and his wife and 8 year old blind daughter have been kidnapped and the kidnapper wants $2 million before he will let them go. The Captain's secretary comes to NCIS with the note he gave her and asks them to help.

Kate walks into the squad room and says hi to Tony. She walks to her desk to sit down when she feels McGee under her desk. Poor Kate is wearing a skirt. "McGee!!! You have 2 seconds to explain why you're down there." "I was...uhh...rewiring the...uhh." " Times up!" Kate grabs McGee's ears removing him quickly from under the desk. " Kate...I didn't mean to..." McGee walks away from Kate to Tony. Tony wraps his arm around McGee in a friendly way. " McGee I was wondering...is she a pantyhose or a thong? Because I'm thinking thong." Kate elbows Tony harshly.

Kate and McGee go and look at the Captain's house. Kate finds the door is locked and she must go in through the window. The window is too high so she gets on McGee's shoulders. McGee still worried about that morning won't open his eyes until Kate finally tells him too. He looks up her skirt again but couldn't help it because of his position. They finally get in the house and they find no signs of forced entry. Gibbs goes to the Captain's office as a Gunnery Sergeant pretending to give the Captain some paper work but also slips in a camera so that they can track what is happening. They still can't communicate with the Captain so Tony goes in as a Chinese takeaway delivery boy and slips him an electronic earwig which the Captain puts in his ear. They can now speak to him and Gibbs tells him what to do.

The Captain bargains for his daughter and the kidnapper leaves her at a train station. Kate and Tony go to pick her up. Once back at headquarters the team discover that she has extraordinary listening abilities. Abby and McGee are trying to hack into the Pentagon but because the air conditioning in the building is not working the computer overheats. They move down to Autopsy where they hack into the Pentagon again and see what the kidnapper is showing the Captain. The 8 year old daughter helps them track down where the kidnapper and her mother are and Gibbs, Kate and Tony go to find them.

McGee is left to tell the Captain what to do but the Captain takes the earwig out and sends the money to where the kidnapper wants it. McGee then tells the kidnapper that the FBI are outside and to come out with his hands up. The kidnapper takes the wife and runs but is trapped between Gibbs and Kate and Tony. The wife is now safe and Abby and McGee are trying to track down the money. The family are reunited and then the money comes back to Washington D.C. The team go to arrest who ever is taking the money out and they find the Captain and it turns out that he set up the whole thing so that he and his family could get away with $2 million. Gibbs is just lost (and extremely angry) as to why the captain would risk all that for some money.

New Character Development / Insights:
  • We first learn McGee has a little sister, who is a slob.
  • Mutilated bodies scare McGee
  • Kate wants to be a mother someday
  • That last scene between Gibbs and the captain where Gibbs is extremely angry, pushing the captain up against a wall and hissing, "Don't you dare tell me that there is a reason for you to throw away what you had!" Much later, we will learn why Gibbs couldn't imagine that a person could throw away a wife and a daughter for money.

Funny Moments:
  • When McGee pops out from underneath Kate's desk and ends up looking up her skirt. She of course removes him by his ears and Tony of course wants details of the view.
  • Tony and Kate showing McGee how to 'reboot' Gibbs' phone (reboot being replace)
  • Abby: "My baby just French Fried." Gibbs wants her to reboot it, works for him after all, despite Abby saying that not everything can be rebooted.
  • Even though the air conditioning is broken and everyone else is miserable and disheveled Gibbs remains composed in an undershirt, dress shirt, and sports jacket. And still drinks his coffee.
  • Tony realizing he owes his teacher an apology when he can't figure out the classic "a train traveling at the speed" math question since the answer is needed to locate the hostage.
  • The way Kate and Tony rise, approach, surround and then double headslap McGee after his promotion to the team.
  • The scene with Kate climbing up to the window using McGee's shoulders. Poor McGee has his eyes shut, he doesn't know when they are teasing him or not.
  • When Tony wants to go into the Pentagon but his hair makes it difficult - the comment about Gibbs keeping his hair the way it is and Tony being asked if he wants to cut his. Then Tony later going in, but as a fast food delivery person .
  • Gibbs telling Tony that the Chinese restaurant is hiring if NCIS doesn't work out for him.
  • McGee's reaction to the bodies in autopsy.
  • When Ducky tells McGee that he had a great uncle who drowned in a barrel of alcohol but had to climb out three times to go to the bathroom.
  • Gibbs telling McGee and Abby, "Just for a sec, just pretend that I don't know anything about computers." Abby answers,"Pretend?"
  • The ending was hilarious, aside from Tony and Kate headslapping McGee, Gibbs telling him he had good news and bad news for him, being promoted to a full time field agent and (supposedly bad news) that "You now belong to me!" :

Trivia:
  • The little girl (who was the actress in "Little Miss Sunshine") is a piano player and very good at recognizing sounds and what key they're in. She helps Abby and McGee by giving them the number of Hertz per key for each different sound.
  • The young girl who plays Sandy is Abigail Breslin.
  • Title refers to the 3 wise monkeys of: hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil
  • Gibbs gives the girl an NCIS badge to make her an 'honorary' team member so to speak because she had been so very brave and been a great help to them.
  • Gibbs uses Sign Language to communicate with Abby (who's music is very loud) while wearing headphones. When Tony makes a smart comment about the use of sign language, Gibbs communicates with Abby in sign language again describing Tony as "small minded" or as I learned it - "bird brain."
  • McGee's memory of Kate at her funeral is from this episode, her on his shoulders in order to climb in the window.
  • Editing Goof: Tony has already gotten a new cell phone box out when Gibbs tosses his phone to McGee. However, later there is a close up shot of him getting the box out.
  • This episode is used to set up Meat Puzzle.

When I watched this episode, I was reminded of the series, " Harts of the West" which Sean starred in in the 90's. There is a scene in the 5th episode, "Dead Man's Leap", where Sean's character, Zane, climbed out a second floor window, only to fall out like Tim did in this episode. Too funny! Deja vu! Sean is too cute! :)

This was one of my fave episodes, too! McGee was so cute! "I didn't look!", he says after Kate had dragged him out from under her desk. Of course, Tony was his usual self, asking Tim what underclothing Kate wore. I miss Kate.

This was the first episode I saw and I was hooked instantly! It is still My favourite episode! Altho I did feel sorry for McGee when he came out from under Kate's desk when she was standing over him!
