A Weak Link

Synopsis:

Gibbs and his team investigate the death of a SEAL that occurred during a training exercise. As the investigation progresses, they come to suspect that the death was a murder rather than an accident.

New Character Development / Insights:

Abby is worried because McGee told her "I REALLY like you!" during a date, and got real quiet when she just said "Thanks".
Kate is semi-smitten with the priest.
We also get more of sense about Kate's passion for her Catholic upbringing.
Gibbs' seasoned nature doesn't allow him to believe, as Kate does, that some people aren't capable of crime.

Funny Moments:

McGee and Abby passive aggressively chiding one another over the use of the word "hinky." Stemming from Abby rejecting McGee's advances for moving their friendship to something more.
Tony, again, making a remark about Gibbs' numerous divorces. He just can't stop.
Kate's crash course in rappelling with "DiNozzo on belay!" [Tony's suggestion that Kate try rappelling was an excellent one, as the process of rappelling caused her to realize that someone as experienced as the victim would have been able to tell if his D-link had been tampered with.]

Trivia:

While Gibbs, Kate and Tony were discussing about how the link broke, Ducky came by with a tub of ice-cream as his neighbours wouldn't let him sleep. Needless to say Tony wolfed down all the ice-cream.
We see Kate winched up by Gibbs while Tony looks on - Kate wanted to know how 'D' link functioned in rappelling gear.
When Gibbs and Kate are about to leave the church after talking to the priest, we see Gibbs light some candles and make a silent prayer - which as we discover in later seasons was probably for Shannon and Kelly.

Can't Abby notice weight difference?

Seeing as there is no discussion about this episode, I thought I'd raise a point.

Early on in the episode Abby tests the d-links to see what material they are made of, and other things. She finds out that the d-link was made out of aluminium, and that the company doesn't make them in aluminium.

What this suggests is that Abby has held both d-links.

Why didn't SHE notice that there was a weight difference? She is usually the one to point out "hinky" stuff, so why not now?

I think this shows that the writers either had a lazy day, or they genuinely didn't know what the problem was.
