Bete Noire

Synopsis:
A terrorist holds Ducky, Gerald, and Kate hostage while NCIS try to figure out how the terrorist got inside and how to get their people out safely.

New Character Development / Insights:
  • Tony had a canopy bed, got bed time stories read to him, candles in his room, when he was 5.
  • Tony fears vampires.
  • Ducky is very cool under fire, his flip remark about hanging a decomposing corpse as an infectious autopsy sign and his curt "yes" when asked if he would prefer the terrorist shoot him rather than Gerald.
  • Ducky is vengeful and capable of killing a man "I can't wait to weigh your liver" after the terrorist shoots Gerald and "Could you give me a go" to the terrorist after Kate fails to stab the terrorist with the scalpel.
  • Ducky considers his co-workers family and feels paternal responsibility for them "Don't worry, son, I'll take care of you" to Gerald as he and Kate lift Gerald after Gerald has been shot.
  • Kate couldn't kill Ari when she had the chance
Funny Moments:
  • Ari: Same way I came in?
Kate: I don't know how you came in.
    Ari: In a body bag.
Kate: Same way you're going out!
  • Both Kate and Gibbs told Ari they would love to demonstrate their shooting skills.

Trivia:
  • When DiNozzo returns from the store, he mentions he has Darjeeling tea from northwest Kashmir. Darjeeling tea is grown in Darjeeling, India, which is in the West Bengal state east of Nepal. Jammu-Kashmir is in the extreme north of India, 1,000 kilometres away to the west.
  • Bête noire - a person or thing that one particularly dislikes or dreads, like a recurring nightmare, i.e. McGee's phobia about maggots and similar creatures. The term comes from the French meaning literally 'black beast'.
  • After Gerald is shot, the man threatens Kate, and says how he wouldn't want to put a bullet in Gerald's knee, that is not a ball and socket joint, he orignally said he would only shoot ball and socket joints - Shoulder, Hip, and Ankle.
  • Tony calls Gibbs more smurf than alpha geek. In a different section of this wiki, it mentions that on set Mark Harmon is nicknamed Papa Smurf.

At the last part, Tony mentioned about stockholm syndrome to Kate.
Was Kate really got into the syndrome and so that she couldn't kill the terrorist?

When they were stabilizing Gerald, Kate yelled ,"You Bastard!" Then Ari said, "You seemed like such a bright young woman and that’s all you can say?" And Kate said, "You ****ing bastard!" But the F-word was covered up by Gerald in pain or some background noise. But you can see her say it. It is obvious. I do not use that language, but knowing Kate's prim and proper attitude, it was so funny! Well, to me it was. And it got past the censors!
