Synopsis:
After a marine widow receives a call from her dead husband, the NCIS team takes on the case and has to exhume the body to deduce whether the call was a prank or not.

New Character Development / Insights:
  • We learn that Kate is an artist.
  • <add information here>
Funny Moments:
  • Kate, Tony and Gibbs at the shooting range. Tony shooting his cap and Kate shooting her PDA.
  • Kate and Tony's plot to burn Gibbs' boat.
  • Who shot the Marine's ear off - Kate or Tony?
  • Tony finds Kate's sketch of him drooling over a woman walking away and Abby as a vampire bat (which Abby loves). Tony turns the pages to see her sketch of Gibbs, but Kate takes her sketch pad away from him before we find out
  • Kate and Tony arguing over how the fake LT.COL looks
  • The plane scene
  • Tony is typing and Kate is watching over his shoulder...K.."You've worked in law enforcement all your life and you never learned how to type?" T..matter of factly, "I'm a man of action." K.."More like an action figure"
  • At the end while Tony and Kate are arguing about whose fault IT was...IT being the Marine's ear, as Tony and Kate continue to argue and are about to ask Gibbs, he silently walks past them and gets into the car with the mysterious red head.
Trivia:
  • Featured Music: "Isolated" performed by Chiasm.
  • In this episode, Kate makes a joke about how many times Gibbs has been married. Gibbs corrects her and says he's only been married 3 times instead of 4, which isn't true. In the third season we find out he has been married 4 times and 3 of them ended in divorce. His first wife and his daughter were killed. Possible explanation: He could be referring to the times he was wrong about the marriages. He wasn't wrong about Shannon, she was his 'always and forever' deal.
  • If you look quickly enough while Gibbs types his password into Tony's computer at the start of the episode, we can see that Gibbs' NCIS clearance user ID is 'lj_gibbs_NCIS'.
  • The device of a newspaper masthead date being used to identify time of death of an embalmed corpse was used in an Australian novel published in June 2003. The novel was "The Castlemaine Murders" by Melbourne author Kerry Greenwood.
  • Jennifer Tighe, who plays Major Peary's wife in this episode, is the daughter of Kevin Tighe. Kevin Tighe is best known as Roy DeSoto on the 70's tv drama "Emergency!"
  • Tony's hat, with the two 9mm bullet holes in it, is seen again. In 3x04 "Silver War" Ziva asks why her hat has a 9mm hole and Gibbs says ventilation. It is the same hat.
