Sub Rosa

Synopsis:
A dead body is found in a barrel of acid on Norfolk Naval Base. A fragment of tattoo, a dolphin tail, points to the dead man being a submariner. When all submariners are accounted for, it becomes apparent there is an impostor on one of the submarines.

New Character Development / Insights:
  • We find out that McGee and Abby both like each other's voices, that Tony doesn't think that they are each other's types, McGee and Abby decide to go on a date, and that McGee supposedly got a tattoo on his bum.
  • Tony doesn't have total regard for procedure. He has an unorthodox method of gaining entry to a suspect's house. Breaking and entering
  • Ducky played cricket in school.

  • Any of the McGee scenes.
  • Kate "I don't see a sub!" (submarine surfaces) Gibbs "See it now?"
  • Kate falling on to Gibbs in the submarine... aw...
    Kate: What’s happening?!
    Gibbs: Emergency blow.

    Gibbs: Yep. That’s what they all tell me.
  • Tony's reaction when he finds out about McGee's tattoo.
  • Abby: "Hi, McGee. How's your Sig hanging?"
Trivia:
  • This is the first appearance of Agent McGee, played by Sean Murray. He became an official cast member in season two.
  • McGee's tattoo was to impress Abby.
  • Gibbs mispronounces submariner. The word is pronounced sub-marin-er, Gibbs says submarine-er
  • Some scenes from "The Hunt for Red October" have been re-used in this episode.
  • Left-handed Sean Murray is right handed in this episode. He uses his right hand when wielding his weapon.
  • In an interview Micheal Weatherly stated that the 'dance' he did before tossing the rock through the window was an ad-lib.He did it as a tip of the hat to Mark Harmon who used to play football.It was also one of the first times he ad-libbed.

This is not the first time Peter Onorati and Sean Murray were in a show together. They were in the t.v. movie "River of Rage: The Taking of Maggie Keene". Sean was the step-son, Matthew and Peter was the bad guy, Kim. I know I shouldn't believe in coincidences, but this is weird. lol

I just rewatched this episode yesterday after a long time and I must say, it was brilliant. The humour in it was absolutely spot on, especially Gibbs' crack after Kate exclaims "Wow!" I was chuckling for hours afterwards.

Now that is tv that I want to watch forever. Keep it coming NCIS. I love it!
